RF?

I’ve probably been keeping my head buried in the sand about this (as usual), but how much do I need to worry about the whole RF legislation that’s making the rounds? Is this something that’s going to really affect me as I design a show?

You certainly should be aware what the regulatory changes encompass, as well as practical usable spectrum considerations. If you typically rent in your wireless, your vendor should be able to take care of this. If you’re responsible for frequency coordination, then yes; you do need to be concerned how the changes will affect your band planning.

The White Space issue should be at the forefront of your learning curve. The number of DTV stations in your area as well as data carriers trying to buy the “white space” between TV channels is big for all of us who use RF mics, IFBs and intercoms.

In short, if we don’t look out, the frequency allocations for many of our existing RF systems may be reallocated to other uses. That means a huge reinvestment in equipment that very few of us can afford.
