Just to get things rollling… I’m curious if anyone on the LD Forum is using/has used fiber optic networks for live events media server systems? ~benton-c

Hi Benton! Yes, I’ve used fiber for live events many times for both networking and video transmission.

Most recently had a fiber optic network backbone for the R. Kelly “Double Up” tour. That networked the data control for the grandMA control network, M-Box media servers, & Control Freak Systems Encore Bridges. It was obviously pushing quite a bit of data through it.

Do those systems natively support fiber channel in? Were you using SDI over fiber or network over fiber? I’ve never used fiber for data transmission and would love to know more about it. Anyone know where to get more info?

I’m currently using the Extron HD-SDI fiber solution for camera feeds. It seems to be working just fine. I’m also using the Extron Fox 500 transmitters/receivers for DVI signals. Those carry audio as well as bi-directional RS-232. Check out more at extron.com
